Dear Sarah,

 I'm just back from Germany - maybe on Thursday you felt a bit damp? (Of course not, lol). Steve and I went for the inside of a week (he's been excellent through all this) - it was a good journey both ways (except Calais again) and we pottered about while Marly was at work until Thursday afternoon when we went up to Rech. The bridge is completely gone now sadly but the whole valley is looking much better than it was even a year ago when we were there - there's still so much to do but at least now it looks possible that it will get done within a year or two now. Just as we got there it started raining. Steve, Jurgen an I were there first shortly followed by Rolf and Renate. Marlene went to collect Gabi from her physio session but waited for her outside while Gabi waited inside. Consequently, of course, they were several minutes later than the rest of us. Dear Sarah,

 I didn't realise Amelia's birthday was Day 100. Probably just as well eh? It's quietening down, most people are getting on with their lives, occasionally giving me a call/text/visit, which is all right. Mac has been particularly attentive and we've got a couple of days in London to look forward to as well.  It's still very strange coming home to an empty house, stranger still that it always stays that way. I've been doing a lot around the house, slowly, and I'm not sure you'd like all of it (have I said this before?), Carrie says I'm keeping busy to suppress the grief. Maybe she's right, but it really is incredibly lonely here on my own so can you blame me?  Steve and Alison arrive on Tuesday and I'm going to make a chowder! I tested the scallops today and although they look a bit weird defrosted (as opposed to fresh), they cleaned up well and tasted perfectly good, so fingers crossed!
